Shabby Chic Flower Box

Charisse’s nuptials are still more than a year away, but I’m really getting excited! My other daughter Samara (the baker) and I will be giving her a shower. The bride-to-be wants a shabby chic/vineyard theme and of course my wheels are turning.

We’ve already started the hunt for wine crates and I’ve been pinning tons of pictures. I put together this simple floral box to see how it would work as a centerpiece. You know that throwing away a box is almost impossible for me so I didn’t have to look far to find one.

I tucked in the flaps and secured them with hot glue. After that it was a matter of covering the box with burlap. What I had on hand was already in strips so that made the process quicker and easier. I also covered the glued down flaps with burlap also.

After that I applied ribbon around the middle of the box and embellished the front with some pearl jewels I found in the clearance section at Joann’s a while back. Once the box was ready I filled it with blossoms and used it as a centerpiece on my Mother’s Day table.

By not securing the flowers inside, changing them will be easy peasy. A white lace tablecloth was the foundation. The stack was very simple. Dark pink charger, white and pink dinnerware that has a damask-esque pattern, plus faux Mother of Pearl flatware. I chose a pink napkin and don’t ask me why I folded it that way and added the clothespin, but it’s there.

The cut class of the smaller tumbler reminds me of lace and is another great thrift find along with the other glasses.

To add to the centerpiece I used the flowers from my Sweetheart Table. This time I added tufts of hot pink tulle to the base and tucked them inside a white vine votive holder. The gold mercury glass bottles and votive holders begged me to be added. Who am I to say no when they’re so cute. Naturally the tapers wanted in on the act also.

I also have champagne taste and a beer budget! All jokes aside I love challenging myself to be a bit more creative and that means using what I have instead of always hanging out in the craft stores. Of course, those 40% off coupons are very tempting!

Wow….such a bright and elegant tablescape. I love the attention to detail! The touches of pink, white with tiny gold touches? Sweet!!! I PIN’d it too so that should help drive more traffic to your wonderful blog 🙂
Thanks for joining us at the Table It Party!

You are so funny! I’ll bet you’ve never found a box you didn’t like!!!

Hey…heads up re: the wine crates. I was pricing them about a year ago, and those things were sky high! Since you have a year to get this going, you can purchase wine crates at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby (I forget…do you have one or the other near you? I know there’s at least one you don’t have there). With a coupon (you can get the coupons online) you can get them for about $6 or $7 apiece. Go ahead and paint or decoupaged wine labels or whatever wine logo you want on them, and them set them outside to let the weather have its way with them. They’ll be aged within a few months and all ready to go!

Your place setting is really pretty, and you KNOW I love the pink!

Thank you Liz. We have a whole year to find all sorts of boxes and vineyard theme goodies. Hopefully she sticks with this theme!

We have champagne taste and a beer budget so we’re always in search of quick and easy substitutions. Thank you for the kind words.

You are off to a very good start! If you keep having ideas like this, there’s no telling what you will have come up with by the time the event arrives!
